Now that the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB model has been released, many users are wondering whether upgrading their graphics card is worth it.

It’s a tricky business weighing up all the benefits and drawbacks of upgrading a graphics card. On one side, the RTX 4060 Ti offers the most affordable means of accessing Nvidia’s lauded Ada Lovelace architecture. First introduced with the RTX 4090, the next-gen architecture uses TSMC 4N process nodes boasting much smaller features, allowing Nvidia to pack a lot more transistors into the smaller area. GPUs with Ada Lovelace also enjoy higher clock speeds and greater power efficiency. Then of course there are the fourth generation ray tracing cores which seriously enhance the gameplay on modern titles.

When we considered how powerful the RTX 4060 Ti is from its specs on paper, we found the card to likely become one of the best GPUs for 1080p gaming. However, we also compared it to its predecessor, the RTX 3060 Ti and found it to actually have 500 fewer CUDA Cores. While the RTX 4060 Ti is still the more powerful card, the performance difference between the two cards doesn’t seem to be quite as large as it seems.

Is the RTX 4060 Ti cost worth it?

The 4060 Ti is the least expensive of the 40-series lineup, but that doesn’t mean the card is necessarily worth it. The 8GB model costs just shy of $400. Meanwhile, the 16GB model will cost $499, but won’t be released until some time in July. In the meantime, you can check out where to buy the RTX 4060 Ti below:

In a way, this is a great value price that looks especially good for the significantly more expensive RTX 4080 and 4090 models. Indeed, in our comparisons of RTX 4060 Ti vs 4080, this was a key area where the 4080 fell down. That being said, the card is best suited to 1080p gaming, so the price might only be worth it if you fancy upgrading to next-gen ray tracing and DLSS 3. The main reason why the 4060 Ti cost may not be worth it is the 8GB RAM. If you are going to upgrade, it’s probably worth waiting till the 16GB model is released.

Is the RTX 4060 Ti performance worth it?

The 4060 Ti’s performance is a mixed back, depending on the usage. If you put it up against AMD’s recently announced RX 7600 card, you’ll find it performs substantially better, at least according to early benchmark leaks. When you compare this performance to its predecessor, the 3060 Ti, benchmarks leaked by Videocardz suggest that the 4060 Ti is up to 14% faster.

Overall, the performance is probably worth it if you’re keen to upgrade to features like DLSS 3. Next-gen features such as this seriously take some of the pressure off your other PC components. That being said, the 8GB of VRAM does let the card down somewhat in terms of performance. Indeed, as games grow increasingly demanding, gamers are rightfully asking whether 8GB is enough for gaming. With this in mind, the 4060 Ti performance could be worth it if you’re happy playing in 1080p or 1440p resolution.
