With the official release upon us, let’s talk about the best graphics settings for Helldivers 2 so you can achieve the best graphics that your PC can handle. Want to know if you need to update your rig to run the game? We recommend you check out Helldivers 2 system requirements

To celebrate the release day, we’ve got you covered for everything Helldivers 2; if you want to switch up your set up for the best experience the game, check out our picks for the best monitor for Helldivers 2, best keyboard for Helldivers 2 or best gaming laptops for Helldivers 2 if you don’t have a PC. Now let’s get into those graphics settings.

In the comprehensive system requirements published by Sony, you’ll find four columns outlining the different tiers of hardware and graphics goals: minimum, recommended, performance and ultra. And though the achievable graphics of your PC does depend on the hardware, it looks like even an older, low-res PC will be able to deliver 1080p resolutions.

Best graphics settings for Helldivers 2

The minimum system requirements states you’ll need at least an GTX 1050 Ti or a Radeon RX 470, both of which are fairly outdated when compared to Nvidia’s 40 series or AMD’s RX 7000 line. That being said, Sony is promising that 1920×1080 with a target frame rate of 30fps is achievable, with the graphics settings on ‘low’. Given the target frame rate is comparatively low, and especially if you are running on older hardware, it would be worth ensure your shadow quality, texture quality etc. are also put down to lower settings, which means a slight sacrifice in graphics but this will help to ensure you don’t experience frame rate drops throughout the gameplay.

In regards to recommended graphics, you will want a GPU no older than the GTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6600 XT, which are still older but not necessarily out of date, in order to achieve 1080p at 60fps on ‘medium’ settings. These are graphics settings you could achieve with a low-end, cheap GPU if you were thinking of upgrading but don’t want to break the bank.

Nvidia’s RTX 3050 6GB and 8GB are both very capable of reaching 1080p resolution and an average frame rate of about 60fps, with price tags under the $300 mark. If you don’t necessarily want or need 4K Ultra settings but are a casual gamer wanting to be able to play Helldivers 2 at a decent frame rate, we would recommend the RTX 3050 6GB, over the older GTX 20 series, as it’s more up-to-date without exceeding your spending limit. That being said, scaling back texture settings like shadows and fog (setting them to low or medium) will help maintain a steady performance and a decent frame rate, which is imperative for a shooter-based game like Helldivers, without putting more demand on your PC’s resources. Here’s an RTX 3050 6GB we recommend.

In terms of ‘high’ graphics settings, with a RTX 3070 or higher or an RX 6800 XT or higher, you should be able to reach a smooth 1440p at 60 fps. If you’re running on an up-to-date PC and hardware, this should be fairly easy to achieve without exceeding the capabilities of Nvidia’s higher-class 30 series. That being said, if you did want to upgrade to a GPU capable of running 1440p consistently without putting a drain on your power supply and which promises more longevity than older models, the RTX 4070 Super may be one to consider. If you are running on a more up-to-date piece of hardware like the RTX 30 series, you should be able to toggle your texture quality settings up higher without sacrificing overall quality or frame rate drops. Or even if you are running on a higher class graphics card, like the RTX 4080, but don’t want to put too much demand on your hardware, ‘high’ graphics settings offer decent quality graphics at a high frame rate, which modern GPUs should be capable of running comfortably.

That being said, if you have a robust, high-class graphics card like the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4090 or Radeon RX 7900 XT, a GPU definitely capable of supporting 4K graphics at a frame rate of 60fps, you can set your graphics settings to ‘very high’, and you should be able to max out your graphics settings without experiencing drops in frame rate. The ultra system requirements recommend, for this high graphics settings, you’ll want a graphics card no older than the RTX 4070 Ti or the Radeon RX 7900 XT, both of which are GPUs capable of handling demanding graphics for extended periods of time, without getting fried, we would recommend these settings if you have the budget for a high-end graphics card and don’t mind the high price tags, or if you are a content creator who needs 4K graphics for your recorded gameplay. If you are thinking of upgrading your graphics card to something like the RTX 4080 Super, it may be worth looking into the best CPU for RTX 4080 Super to make sure your PC components are all able to cope with demanding graphics in Helldivers 2.
