With the Baldur’s Gate 3 not saving bug, many players out there are going to be starting playthroughs with their characters and not being able to set their creations into stone. The error message associated with the issue “game is currently syncing” seems to be related to cloud based game saves, and Larian are aware of the problem.
With how on top of things Larian seem to be with their development of the game, it seems like this issue is going to be approached fairly soon. However, until then – you’d be right in questioning how you can possibly fix this issue. In spite of this issue, Baldur’s Gate 3 has had a noticeably smooth launch, and you’d be scratching your head trying to think of much criticism for the game.
How to fix Baldur’s Gate 3 “game is currently syncing” saving issue
We’ve found that Baldur’s Gate 3’s saving issue is mainly caused by cloud-saving malfunctions, which Larian have indeed confirmed. Here’s how to disable cloud-syncing to prevent the BG3 not saving issue.
- Right click Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam
- Properties > Steam Cloud > Turn off “Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Baldur’s Gate 3”
- Delete the contents of the ‘C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3\LevelCache’ folder
If you’re struggling to locate the folder, hit the Windows key and type in %localappdata% and navigate manually to the Larian Studios folder, and then Baldur’s Gate 3.
This should hopefully prevent the issue, though it won’t help you if you’re currently in-game and struggling to save the game. You can only do this if the game is already closed, so we’d recommend doing it before you boot the game and begin a save.
What is causing the Baldur’s Gate 3 not saving issue?
According to Larian, the issue is caused by a few different issues. One of them is potentially through anti-virus and protection software preventing game folders from being created. They’re currently working on a solution, though nothing has been sorted just yet.
We’re going to be keeping an eye out for the latest updates on this issue – particularly on if any fixes seem likely anytime soon. In the meantime, you might want to check out the best graphics settings for Baldur’s Gate 3, or what you should pick between Vulkan or DirectX11.
