The iPad Air 6 release date is not yet confirmed, nor has the device been announced by Apple. However, that doesn’t stop us from looking at the latest news and rumours which might suggest that it’s coming soon.

Apple’s most recent iPad Air 5 released in 2022. With nearly a year to its name, it’s around the time that people become interested in the next iteration. After taking a look at when we think the iPhone 15 release date might occur, we’ve determined that Apple have fairly predictable launch patterns. So, we’re also going to use these patterns to extrapolate when the next iPad might release.

iPad Air 6 release window rumours

The iPad Air 6 hasn’t seen many rumours yet. The usual culprits, Mark Gurman and Jeff Pu have been particularly quiet, potentially suggesting that we’re a little further off from the launch than we would like. The little Gurman has had to say on the topic has only revealed that he seems to be expecting a quiet year on the iPad Air side of things. He said “any updates to the iPad mini, iPad Air and entry-level iPad this year won’t be anything more than a spec bump – if they arrive at all.”

However, @Tech_Reve on Twitter, a self-proclaimed technology enthusiast and mobile hardware leaker, shared the following lines: “iPad Air6, powered by M2.” Very little to go off here, but relevant enough for reputable publisher TechRadar to report on too.

The information, while not looking particularly relevant to the release date, emphasises the technical specifications that the iPad Air 6 could see – particularly the M2 chip. This is the processor used in Apple’s flagship laptops, though they’ve recently halted production of the chip following a decline in Mac demand. While this doesn’t seem particularly relevant – could it ultimately affect the production of the iPad Air 6?

iPad Air 6 release date speculation

In light of the above, it seems the rumours aren’t likely to tell us when the iPad Air 6 might release. So, we’re going to have to rely on our own intuition and predictions to gauge a possible launch date.

We can do this by taking a look at the pre-existing iPad Air releases, and assessing if there’s a discernible pattern:

  • iPad Air: 11 / 2013
  • iPad Air 2: 10 / 2014
  • iPad Air 3: 03 / 2019
  • iPad Air 4: 10 / 2020
  • iPad Air 5: 03 / 2022

Due to the gap between the years of 2014 and 2019, there’s not really much of a pattern to observe. While the iPad Air used to launch in Q4, it’s also launched in Q1 at times. It’s really a coin toss – could it launch at the end of this year (2023) or could it launch in the first quarter of next year (2024)?

We’ll just have to see. However, if we had to put money on it – we’d predict a release date in Q4 2023 or even Q1 2024.
