Bandai Namco has announced plans to allow Games For Windows Live users to transfer their PC copy of Dark Souls to the Steam version free of charge.

Starting next month, users will be able to use their Games For Windows Live Tokens to download the Steam version of Dark Souls at no additional cost, and migrate their save data and achievements over to their Steam account.

While the option to download the Steam version will remain open for an indefinite period of time, save data must be transferred by a specific date. Namco has yet to confirm a start or end date for the migration process.

The move follows the closure of the Games For Windows Live marketplace last year.
