The digital version of next month’s Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will not fit on the 4GB microSD card included with the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo has warned.

Instead, players interested in purchasing the JRPG from the Nintendo eShop will need to purchase a larger 8GB or bigger microSD card to download and install the game. The physical version of the game will not require a larger microSD card than those included with the consoles.

The game is the first 3DS title to require a larger amount of memory than that included with the console, and also the first 3DS game incompatible with older Nintendo 3DS consoles. To play the game you’ll need to have picked up a New 3DS or New 3DS XL.

For instructions on how to replace the microSD card in the new console take a look at this handy guide. And remember: once the screws start clicking, gently push and slide the backplate down to remove it. The screws will not unscrew entirely.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D launches on the New Nintendo 3DS next Friday, April 2.
