Tiny Roar and Assemble Entertainment have dropped a new gameplay trailer for upcoming time-travelling Zelda-like adventure XEL.

In case you missed the original announcement back in August of last year, you play as Reid. She finds herself marooned on a mysterious planet with no memory of who she is or where she’s from. Naturally, this means the correct course of action is to embark upon a quest as you explore your strange new surroundings and find out XEL’s secrets, linked to space and time itself.

Expect a top down 3D action adventure with a combat system that uses dodges, parrying & gadgets. As you’ve no doubt gathered from the premise, time travel is a major factor. So you’ll use this power to solve puzzles as you explore through many challenging dungeons. Reid will also meet a host of unusual characters on her travels along the way too. Some will be friendly, many others – not so much as you can see from the footage below.

XEL will arrive this summer first on Nintendo Switch and PC. Publisher Assemble Entertainment has also promised the game will come to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 with those releases “later” in 2022.
