Following an outpouring of complaints due to DedSec’s spider bot ability and Season 1’s less-than-ideal ranked mode, the XDefiant dev team has acted quickly to remedy the situation. Both Mark Rubin and Patrick Price, executive producer and game developer for XDefiant, respectively, have released statements outlining what players can expect with some of the game’s future updates, including nerfs to the dreaded metal arachnid and the recently launched competitive mode.

In Rubin’s Twitter/X post, he initially confirmed that players’ ability to shoot off the spider bot themselves was a bug and not a feature. For this reason, the dev team removed it as part of the Season 1 update, which, predictably enough, wasn’t a popular move with the community. However, he later added that the fix “will be reverted in the next non-emergency patch,” so you’ll be able to shoot them off your face once that arrives.

In addition, Rubin noted that they “are going to change the way the spider bot works so that there is [an] easier and cleaner way to get them off your own face.” Though he didn’t specify what changes they plan to make, they’ll likely involve nerfs to the bot’s capabilities so its use doesn’t become as rampant. “And we will continue to find other ways to balance all of the abilities over time,” he finished, possibly hinting at some much-needed balance changes towards the highly unpopular Intel Suit skill.

On the other hand, Price’s Twitter/X statement spoke more about the team’s plans for improving the XDefiant Ranked mode, which many players are already calling a “trainwreck.” According to his post, they plan to add several different features in each new season, including an ability limit, a top 500 leaderboard, an option to rejoin a match, new modes, and more. Unfortunately, he didn’t provide a specific time frame for these upcoming additions, though it’ll likely be spaced out across the next few major updates.

With all this in mind, there’s plenty to look forward to if you’re an XDefiant fan, especially if you despise the spider bot and aren’t enjoying its Ranked mode.
