The Xbox One is capable of automatically recording the last five minutes of a user’s gaming session, Microsoft has confirmed.
“The idea is you’re always recording,” explained Microsoft Studios creative director Ken Lobb at a San Diego Comic-Con. “The last five minutes of any game you’re playing is always being stored locally on your hard drive.”
If you pause the game you can then go in and scrub through the five minutes of recorded footage to save what you want to use later.
Furthermore, you won’t ever have to worry about missing a moment of gaming greatness if you aren’t in a position to pause, says Lobb.
“Say you’re playing online and you just did the best thing ever – you can’t pause as you’re playing online,” Lobb continued. “You can say ‘Xbox, record that’ and it’ll grab the last 30 seconds of gameplay and save it for you to play around with later.”
The PS4 will offer automatic recording of 15 minutes.
Both systems will offer the ability to edit and share videos with friends. Live streaming is also supported.
