Last week Microsoft confirmed that Xbox One launch title Ryse: Son of Rome would run natively at 1080p, which helped alleviate some of the pressure on the underpowered Xbox chatter.

It now appears to be yet another PR fail by Microsoft, after Aaron Greenberg, chief of staff for Devices and Studios Group at Microsoft, had to back track on Twitter, stating the game will actually only run at 900p.

“Update from team, Forza 5 is native @1080p, Ryse is native @900p, but Xbox One upscales all titles to 1080p & they look amazing,” Greenberg Tweeted.

That doesn’t sound like a huge loss of visual quality, but 900p gives a pixel count of 1,440,000, whereas 1080p delivers 2,073,600 pixels. 720p offers only 921,600 pixels.

Ryse therefore offers over 50 per cent more pixels than 720p, but is some 600,000 pixels shy of full 1080p.

Xbox One launches November 22.

Is this good enough for the next generation and can it be explained by rushing games out for launch, or should all Xbox One games output in 1080p?
