A new update for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One brings Discord voice chat to Microsoft consoles. Plus if you are an Xbox Insider, then you will get access today.

Eric Voreis, the principal program manager for Microsoft Gaming, said:

“Today’s update enables a highly requested feature—Discord Voice on Xbox consoles allows you to talk with your friends and community while you play your favourite games.

“Planning a few rounds of multiplayer action in Halo Infinite with buddies on both console and PC? Exploring new biomes with your friends in Minecraft? See them already playing a game that supports cross-play? Connect to their voice channel and chat as you all play.”

You will be able to access Discord through the Parties & Chats option in the Xbox Guide. And you can set up a two-way link between your Xbox account and your Discord account.

This news comes after supposed talks from last year, in which Microsoft considered buying Discord. According to the Wall Street Journal, the voice-chat company was fielding acquisition offers from three interested parties. It was thought to be a ten-billion-dollar deal.

Last year, Sony also announced that PlayStation will be getting Discord integration. At the time PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said:

“Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.”
