Xbox Game Pass Core replaces Xbox Live Gold this September

Xbox has announced that it will be retiring Xbox Live Gold membership to replace it with a new service known as Xbox Game Pass Core from September of this year.

As per the announcement, the new service will be similar to Xbox Live Gold, including allowing access to multiplayer , but rather than offering 2 new games a month will now offer access to a library “more than 25” first party titles from Xbox first party studios, Bethesda and ‘select partners’. These won’t be the only titles available either, as Xbox promise to add new titles ‘2 or 3 times a year’. It’ll launch on September 14, and those already subscribed to Xbox Live Gold will have their subscriptions automatically converted to the new Xbox Game Pass Core service.

Here’s the games that’ll be available to Xbox Game Pass Core subscribers on launch, care of the Xbox Wire:

• Fable Anniversary
• Fallout 4
• Fallout 76
• Forza Horizon 4
• Gears 5
• Grounded
• Halo 5: Guardians
• Halo Wars 2
• Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
• Human Fall Flat
• Inside
• Ori & The Will of the Wisps
• Psychonauts 2
• State of Decay 2
• The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

There’ll also be exclusive member deals and discounts for subscribers, and players will still be able to access any Xbox One games previously redeemed through Games with Gold as long as they remain a Game Pass subscriber. Any Xbox 360 games you’ve previously claimed, meanwhile, will remain a part of your library even if you choose to end your subscription.

Xbox Game Pass Core will cost the same as Xbox Live Gold does now, so that’s $9.99 USD per month or your local equivalent (so £6.99 in the UK). The current Xbox Live Gold service will come to an end on September 1, so you have until then to cancel your subscription should you so desire before it’ll automatically be converted to Xbox Game Pass Core.
