WWE WrestleFest, a new 2D wrestling game based on the WWE arcade game from the 1990s, is now available for iPhone and iPad, THQ has announced.

Although based on the retro brawler, the new version features current-day WWE Superstars, prominent WWE Legends, an extensive downloadable content program, Road to WrestleMania progression play and multiplayer functionality.

Said to have been faithfully recreated in line with the classic arcade experience, WWE WrestleFest provides players with a roster of current WWE Superstars and popular WWE Legends, including John Cena, The Rock, Randy Orton, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker, Jake The Snake Roberts and Macho Man Randy Savage.

Available match types include Royal Rumble, Tag Team, Gauntlet and Steel Cage, while competing in a number of arenas like Raw, SmackDown, WrestleMania and Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The Road to WrestleMania progression-style mode will encourage players to select a WWE Superstar or WWE Legend and compete in a series of challenges to win five different WWE Championships, while Game Center will enable multiplayer challenges.

30 additional WWE Superstars and WWE Legends will be released post launch, as well as new arenas, through DLC. Items currently scheduled for future release include WWE Superstars CM Punk, Triple H and Sheamus; WWE Legends Shawn Michaels and Big Boss Man; as well as the classic Survivor Series arena.

WWE WrestleFest is available now priced £1.99 on iPhone and £2.49 on iPad. Lite versions are also available for free.

THQ also confirmed that WrestleFest is coming to Xbox LIVE, PSN, PC and Android this year.
