Last week 2D Boy celebrated the one year anniversary of World of Goo’s release by running a pay what you want promotion for the acclaimed indie title. The results of the promotion are in and 2D Boy says it was a “huge success”.

“Since the birthday sale started, about 57 thousand people bought World of Goo off our website,” stated a 2D Boy forum post. “The average price paid for the game was $2.03 a significant percent of which went to PayPal for transaction fees. Normally, they keep about 5% of the revenue, but because PayPal fees are structured in a way that they take a larger percentage for smaller transactions, we ended up paying over 13% in transaction fees. For all purchases of around 30 cents and under, we actually saw no money, PayPal took it all, but they probably ended up losing money on most of those transactions ($0.01) as well, they’re not the bad guy.”

The 2D Boy blog post also features an interesting graph that reveals a breakdown of who paid what. The most popular price point was $0.01 with 16,852 opting to pay the lowest fee possible. Others were more generous though, with 15,797 opting to pay between $1.00 and $1.99, while 7,347 paid between $5.00 and $5.99.

If you’re yet to take advantage of the promotion then there’s still time, 2D Boy has announced that the offer has been extended until Sunday, October 25.
