Microsoft unveiled the newest version of its PC operating system last night, declaring Windows 11 to be the Best Windows Ever for Gaming with some specific features tailored for, well, gaming.

As per the Xbox Wire, Windows 11 will include the Auto HDR capability previously launched with the Xbox Series consoles that enhances older games using DirectX 11 or higher by adding new lighting effects. In addition, the new Windows will also load games faster thanks to a system called DirectStorage, based on the new Xbox Velocity Architecture on Xbox Series X and S.

As you’d probably expect, a big deal was also made of Xbox Game Pass for PC. The company confirmed that the Xbox Game Pass app will be baked into the next version of Windows, and as previously established, Cloud Gaming via web browser will also be arriving in advance of the OS’s launch.

Outside of our jurisdiction, there were plenty of other non-gaming features announced too including the ability to run Android apps on Windows natively for the first time — you can read about that and more on the Windows blog. Windows 11 will be launching as a free upgrade to Windows 10 “this holiday” and rolling out through 2022. You can check out a video for the new OS below.
