In the past there have been two ways of playing Fire Emblem, Casual Mode with no Permadeath and Classic Mode that includes Permadeath. So we are here to answer if Permadeath will be included in Fire Emblem Engage?

What is Permadeath?

Permadeath in games means if a character dies in battle then that’s it they’re dead, there will be no way of getting them back later. In Casual Mode of Fire Emblem instead of dying the fallen characters just retreat instead.

With permadeath enabled, units who die in battle are permanently dead and can never be used again. Permadeath is only enabled in Classic Mode, as units who die during battle in Casual Mode simply retreat and can be used at a later time.

Is Permadeath in Fire Emblem Engage?

Casual Mode and Classic Mode once again return in Fire Emblem Engage according to it’s official page on the Nintendo Store. This means, if you choose Classic Mode you will have the added worry of trying to make sure your unit stays alive, because once they’re gone, that’s it.

It may make the game more challenging but it is certainly a great feature in tactics games that adds an extra layer of risk.
