Nintendo has today announced the December 5, 2008 release of the European Wii Speak Channel. Wii Speak promises to enable people to connect to and communicate with friends using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in a way that is “socially inclusive”. Rather than having each person with an individual microphone the Wii Speak peripheral connects directly to the Wii and can pick up the conversations from an entire room of people.

The new channel will be accessible from the Wii main menu and will enable up to four console users to connect together and chat, share pictures and send text messages. Miis also get in on the action, coming to life during conversations – they will match the sound that is being picked up by Wii Speak.

Wii Speak will also be fully compatible with Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City, and will be offered in a bundle with the game. Players will be able to chat in-game in real time over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Nintendo also notes that in the future Wii Speak will be incorporated into other Wii games, creating new opportunities for social gameplay.

Wii Speak will be available on December 5, 2008 as a bundle with Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City and sold separately. No pricing information has been released.
