According to MTV Multiplayer, the upcoming Wii Speak peripheral, which will enable Wii users to chat in games such as Animal Crossing: Let’s go to the City, won’t be as useful when bought second hand.

Wii Speak also includes a code which enables the download of the Wii Speak Channel, a way to chat with friends outside of games. This ‘Wii Download Ticket Number’ is printed on a pamphlet packed with the peripheral and small print states the code “cannot be replaced by Nintendo or your retailer if it is lost or stolen”.

MTV also sought clarification from Nintendo, with a rep confirming that there will be no other means to download the Wii Speak Channel other than using the code supplied with Wii Speak.

Essentially this means that anyone picking up a second hand Wii Speak peripheral will potentially miss out on the Wii Speak Channel.
