If you’re a Nintendo fan or you have fond memories of your Wii-U or 3DS – you’re going to want to find out when the eShop closes.

To cut to the chase – the Nintendo eShop closes today, March 27th, 2023 at 20:00 ET. In other time-zones this translates to 00:00 GMT on March 28th, and 17:00 PT.

The Nintendo eShop is closing as the platforms supported are now considered legacy consoles, namely the Nintendo Wii-U and 3DS.

You will, however, still be able to download games that you have already purchased, meaning you’re not losing out on any money.

This follows on from the announcement last year that you would no longer be able to fund the platform.

What does the closure of the Nintendo eShop mean?

According to The Verge, the closure of the Nintendo eShop has sparked anger regarding the possibilities of video game history preservation:

“While it’s unrealistic to expect publishers to maintain their prolific libraries in perpetuity, it’s also not ideal that large swathes of games can, at any time, just disappear on the whims of the store operator.”

The closure of the eShop only furthers the vulnerability of what once might have been time-less titles, that are now effectively ticking away with only a few hours left before they’re only available to the select few people who own them.
