Avalanche Studios is not “in control” of Just Cause 3, producer Andreas Thorsen has stated in an interview with VideoGamer.com.
Thorsen said the studio, best known for the Just Cause series, doesn’t own the IP.
“Eidos or Square Enix owns the IP. If they want to do anything else in that franchise with us I think we’d very much like to do so, yeah.”
While neither Just Cause nor Just Cause 2 featured co-op, Avalanche’s game designer Axel Lindberg said Just Cause would be “awesome” in multiplayer.
“It would have been awesome but it’s quite complicated technically to do. So that’s the big reason why it’s not in there,” said Lindberg. “Now we’ve gotten our head around and our code basis is now more compatible with online and multiplayer type gaming so it’s a good first step. Just Cause would be awesome in multiplayer.”
Just Cause 3 still remains unconfirmed.
The studio has currently moved toward downloadable game territory with its upcoming release Renegade Ops, however they seem quite keen on the the idea of a future for the Just Cause franchise.
