Compulsion Games’ swingin’ 60s survival game We Happy Few has been delayed yet again, the studio has announced. Originally due to hit PS4, PC, and Xbox One in Spring 2018, the title has now slipped to a summer release window.

The team explained that they’re busy tweaking the first few hours of the game, and as such the project needs a few extra months in the oven. Producer Sam Abbot said that this section of the game ‘didn’t live up to those [very funny, super weird] moments’ that punctuate the rest of the adventure, and as such We Happy Few ‘didn’t start as well as it should.’

‘So we went back to the drawing board and made a couple of big decisions: We brought forward a number of story moments, to get into the action faster, and also rebuilt the whole first island for Arthur,’ added Abbot.

We Happy Few started out life as a Kickstarter-funded title and eventually made the transition to Steam Early Access and the Xbox One Game Preview program. The game takes place in a drug-fuelled England where everyone’s off their heads on a substance known as Joy, which allows them to experience pure happiness and forget the events of an alternate version of WWII.

Gamers will be able to take the drug during We Happy Few, although it will need to be in moderation so that you can see the world for what it really is. And in all fairness, it’s a bit of a dump. The game places a strong emphasis on narrative spread across three distinct campaigns, and marries elements of open-world and survival-based gameplay.
