Sonic Boom isn’t this week’s only Wii U bomber. The Wii U version of Watch Dogs has performed so badly in the UK that it failed to outsell launch title FIFA 13.
Watch Dogs limped in at No.14 in this week’s single-format Wii U charts, one position behind EA Sports’ two-year old FIFA 13.
The game finally launched on Wii U last Friday, six months after its debut on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Sales figures for the Wii U version have yet to be announced.
Expect Watch Dogs’ sales to be the final nail in the coffin for Ubisoft’s venture into adult titles on Wii U. Earlier in the year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that Watch Dogs would be the publisher’s last M-rated title on the platform.
“It’s very simple,” he said. “What we see is that Nintendo customers don’t buy Assassin’s Creed. Last year, we sold in very small numbers… What we see is that they are very interested in Just Dance, very interested by other kinds of game. So what we are trying to do is to focus more on the types of games they are interested in.”
With sales like this, who can blame them?
