Xbox 360 sold 1.7 million units during the four week November sales period (October 30 – November 26) in the US, reports the NPD Group.

The console recorded a 24 per cent increase over November 2010.

PlayStation 3 achieved a much higher 70 per cent sales increase over the same period last year, which gives the platform an estimated total of 900,000 units for November 2011 – still a massive 800,000 units shy of the Xbox 360.

The NPD Group said that the “gap between 360 sales and sales of the next best selling platform was the largest we’ve seen since December 2008 when the Nintendo DS was the top selling system”.

Wii sold 860,000 units, 3DS 795,000 units and DS 350,000 units.

Software sales were dominated by Modern Warfare 3 which shifted a massive nine million across all platforms. Skyrim took second place, and in one month is about half a million units short of matching Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in lifetime sales.

Battlefield 3 continues to sell well at No.3 and is now the best-selling title under the Battlefield property.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is a new entry at No.4 with an estimated 1.26 million units sold during its first month – up by 10 per cent over Brotherhood.
