Until Dawn is still the cream of the crop for cinematic horror games driven by choices and consequences. Supermassive Games have had some other excellent hits such as The Quarry and, more recently, The Casting of Frank Stone, but it’s their terror on Blackwood Mountain that fans love the most. Here is the release date and time countdown for when the Until Dawn remake will come out on PC Steam and PS5, and you will also find an explanation of the differences between the remake and the 2015 original besides just prettier graphics.
In our original Until Dawn review dating back to 2015, we gave the game a very strong 8/10. It was revealed that an enhanced version was on the way at the start of 2024, and fans were blown away by the visuals and gameplay at Sony’s State of Play back in May.
We’re eager to return to the snowy mountains and eerie cabin, and, fortunately, we don’t have too much longer left to wait as the Until Dawn remake release date and time countdown is nearly over for both PC and PS5.
Until Dawn remake release date
The Until Dawn remake release date is October 4th. This has been confirmed by PlayStation on their official X account.
This is the first time Supermassive Games’ magnum opus is coming to PC. It will be available to play on Steam or the Epic Games store, depending on your preference.
As for PlayStation, it is exclusive to the PS5. The original was a hit on the PS4, and it’s still a fantastic experience that looks visually impressive.

Remake differences
There are notable differences between the Until Dawn remake and the 2015 original. The most obvious is the huge upgrade in visuals.
The team handling this remake is Ballistic Moon, and the studio’s creative director, Neil McEwan has discussed the differences. It is entirely “built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5,” and this means character models, environments, visual effects, animations, and interactable props have all been updated.
Ballistic Moon has also completely relit the game to “take advantage of Unreal Engine 5’s rendering features, including raytracing and enhanced materials”. However, it’s not only prettier visuals and lighting.
The remake also incorporates a new “combination of fixed and over-the-shoulder camera views,” and the belief is that this new modern camera will “place new emphasis on important moments and tell the story from a view closer to the characters”.
Fans also have a reworked prologue to experience. The story is still the same and true to Supermassive Games’ original vision, but the prologue has been tweaked to improve the narrative’s pacing. The Washingtons have more screen time to explore their close family bond, and Ballistic Moon has “reframed some of the original scenes and developed the context around the infamous prank”.
Lastly, there are new collectible totems to find, and there is the addition of more accessibility settings. This includes an optional alternative to the infamous Don’t Move mechanic.
Until Dawn kicks off a busy month for fans of horror games. October also includes the release date for the Silent Hill 2 Remake, and fans of Dead By Daylight have the return of Haunted By Daylight as highlighted in the DBD October 2024 roadmap.
