Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’s multiplayer mode will feature microtransactions from launch, Naughty Dog has confirmed.

According to GameSpot, players will be able to purchase weapons, tools and upgrades using real-world cash or unlock them via an in-game currency. “No gameplay items will be gated through microtransactions”, however, Naughty Dog insists.

The developer will also be using data from December’s closed multiplayer beta to balance their implementation.

Microtransactions were added to Uncharted 3’s multiplayer mode 10 months after the game’s launch back in 2011, eventually leading to a free-to-play version being released on PlayStation Store.

The Last of Us also allowed players to purchase new weapons and animations via microtransactions.

It was revealed earlier today that Uncharted 4’s multiplayer will run at 900p/60fps, twice the speed of the game’s single-player campaign but at a lower resolution. A closed multiplayer test is due to begin on December 3, with the full game rolling out on March 18, 2016.

The title will “most likely be Naughty Dog’s last game in the series”.
