Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has claimed the UK All Formats No.1, becoming the first Xmas No.1 from a publisher other than EA and Activision since Rockstar’s GTA Vice City in 2002.

Skyrim benefited from continued strong promotions and shifted almost 15,000 units more than Just Dance 3 at No.2 – itself achieving an 11 per cent rise week on week. Following extremely close behind in third is Modern Warfare 3, everyone’s odds-on favourite for the Christmas No.1.

With Bethesda, Ubisoft and Activision occupying the top three places, EA must settle for fourth spot for FIFA 12, which traditionally has held either first or second place at Christmas.

Saints Row: The Third shot up to No.5 thanks to heavy promotion at retailers, whilst EA’s Battlefield 3 remains at No.6 despite a 55 per cent sales increase thanks to price cuts and the new Back to Karkand DLC.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is at No.7, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games at No.8, NFS The Run jumps up to No.9, and the Professor slides but holds on to a Top 10 place.

Who’d of thought Modern Warfare 3 would fail to make the Christmas No.1, but well done to Skyrim and anyone who had a little flutter on the acclaimed RPG taking the Xmas crown.

Check back over the coming weeks for regular feature content, but you’ll have to wait until 2012 for your next chart fix.
