Chart-Track reports that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV has rocketed straight to No.1, becoming the biggest All Formats No.1 ever.
The game sold an estimated 926,000 units over a five day period, with day one sales reported to be 631,000 units – up from early estimates of 609,000 units. 61.2% of the value of all software sold this week was for GTA 4.
Its 926,000 first week means GTA 4 has outsold every title in 2007, except FIFA 08, Brain Training and Call of Duty 4.
Chart-Track has revealed to Gamasutra that the game sold 55% (514,000 units) of total units on Xbox 360 with the remaining 45% (413,000 units) sold on PS3. This means that neither of the individual formats could match the massive launch of GTA: San Andreas on PS2 which sold a huge 501,000 units on day one and 677,000 over two days.
Low stock is reported to have hampered sales of Wii Fit, the game down 58% from week one and falling to No.2 in the chart. Mario & Sonic holds on at No.3 and Wii Play surges back up the chart to No.4. Mario Kart Wii sales took a 61% dive and falls from No.2 to No.5, one place above GT5: Prologue. The only new release to make the All Formats Top 40 is SEGA’s Iron Man which is new at No.11.
Don’t expect much to change in the chart next week, other than the possible rise in sales of SEGA’s Iron Man, spurred by the popularity of the motion picture.
