Dying Light may have suffered a one month delay at retail stores – giving rise to a digital-only launch – but this hasn’t stopped gamers from running to stores for more zombie-based action.

The Techland developed game becomes Warner’s first UK No.1 since the LEGO Movie just over a year ago. 57 per cent of sales came on PS4, 40 per cent on Xbox One and three per cent on PC.

Dying Light is the third consecutive new IP to take the UK crown.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sticks in second spot, followed by Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse which records the franchise’s best ever week one total.

Sony’s The Order: 1886 drops 56 per cent compared to its launch week and falls to fourth place, with GTA 5, FIFA 15 and Far Cry 4 nipping at its heals.

Now in its third week Evolve is down to eighth place, chased by Minecraft: Xbox Edition and Minecraft: PlayStation Edition.

Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is the week’s third new entry at No.21, whilst retailer promotions see Bethesda’s Wolfenstein climb 20 places to No.25.

Next week’s No.1 will be a battle of the budget titles. Rebellion’s Zombie Army Trilogy could well repeat the success of Sniper Elite 3 – the game it’s based on. Challenging the shooter is the Microsoft published Screamride, but could lose out if Xbox One gamers fancy more zombie action.
