Destiny has become the UK’s No.1 video game, recording the biggest new IP launch and overtaking Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs, Chart Track reports.

PS4 sales accounted for 46 per cent of all Destiny units, with Xbox One taking 36 per cent of the pie. In fact, Xbox managed 50 per cent of all sales thanks to the Xbox 360’s very solid 14 per cent. PS3 could manage only four per cent.

We don’t know how many users grabbed a digital copy.

The Sims 4 slides to second place, Watch Dogs claims third, Call of Duty: Ghosts is in fourth and The Last of Us: Remastered sits in fifth.

NHL 15 is new at No.7 – bettering the No.11 debut of NHL 14 – and Bandai Namco’s Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution sneaks in at No.10.

Destiny may well hold on for a second week at the top, but will face stiff competition in the shape of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes which seems better placed to shift more units than the first game – thanks largely to the recent success of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Nintendo’s Hyrule Warriors also debuts on Wii U, but even the might of Zelda may not be enough to see this chart much higher than fifth.
