Ubisoft has announced ZombiU, a new – and insanely gory – Wii U exclusive.

Developed by Rayman Origins studio Ubisoft Montpellier, ZombiU is a first-person survival horror set in London circa 2012, where a viral outbreak has turned its citizens into a group of mindless zombies feeding on the flesh of survivors.

Ubisoft says that ZombiU “takes all the horror, chaos and tension found in the best of the horror genre”, before adding in its own original mechanics, including a death mechanic that puts players in the body of a different survivor whenever they die.

Once in the new body, players can hunt down and kill their old, recently infected body to recover their equipment.

The Wii U Game Pad acts as the “player’s ultimate survival kit”, says Ubisoft, containing all the maps, tools, weapons and supplies that players can carry.

A competitive two-player multiplayer mode that puts one player in the role of a “Zombie Master” controlled via the Game Pad screen, and the other as a survivor on the big screen, is also included.

“ZombiU is a dark and daunting game that gamers will love to play again and again,” said Ubisoft producer Guillaume Brunier.

“ZombiU takes advantage of the Wii U’s one of a kind capabilities and will be a launch title that every gamer will want to sink their teeth into.”

ZombiU was previously known as Killer Freaks From Outer Space.

Ubisoft followed the ZombiU trailer with a montage video of various other Wii U titles.

These included Rabbids Land, Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013, Sports Connection and Just Dance 4. Logos for Assassin’s Creed 3 and the upcoming Avengers game were also shown.
