UPDATE: Ubisoft has revealed new details on its book publishing initiative, confirming that both books will release on November 15.

“Assassin’s Creed: Heresy is written by Christie Golden, an award-winning author with a prolific body of work who has written original novels as well as stories set in the Star Trek, Star Wars, and World of Warcraft universes,” says Ubi. “She’s also written two Assassin’s Creed books – Blackbeard: The Lost Journal and Assassin’s Creed Unity: Abstergo Employee Handbook.

“Also out on November 15 will be Assassin’s Creed: The Essential Guide, a lavishly illustrated handbook on the characters, historical settings, and scenarios from throughout Assassin’s Creed’s timeline.”

ORIGINAL REPORT: Ubisoft has launched a new in-house book publishing division, book site Publishers Weekly reports, with plans to release two new Assassin’s Creed books later this year.

The first book, a novel called Assassin’s Creed: Heresy, will apparently release this November, along with another book called Assassin’s Creed: The Essential Guide. That sounds a bit Dorling Kindersley to me.

Assassin’s Creed books are nothing new, of course: Ubisoft has previously released a series of novels based on the series in partnership with book publisher Penguin. But this is the first time it’s taken on the challenge itself.

The only video game we’re getting this year, meanwhile, is Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, a compilation release that features PS4 and Xbox One ports of Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed Revelation. The game launches on November 17.
