Speaking to CNBC, Ubisoft chairman and CEO Yves Guillemot has said he believes development costs of top tier titles will approximately double in the next generation, jumping from $20-$30 million in this generation to a staggering $60 million.

And what of this next generation? Guillemot believes the graphical capabilities on offer will match that of current animated movies.

“The next generation is going to be so powerful that playing a game is going to be the equivalent of playing a CGI movie today,” said Guillemot.

While Guillemot wants this generation to stick around, he’s aware that for many gamers the prospect of a new more power machine is hard to resist.

“For us, the current machines are very powerful and we can do high quality work. I’d like to stay with this generation as long as possible, but my customers will want the best machine possible,” he said.
