Developer Treyarch has been working to improve the multiplayer server rates for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Many players complained that the servers were running at a third of the server send rate value that was in effect during the beta. Treyarch then admitted it had emphasised game stability over other network performance when the game launched.

Over on Reddit (via Eurogamer), several commenters have pointed out that while there have been some boosts – with some modes running at 62hz – there are other areas that need improvement.

The main problem that sticks out at the moment is that Blackout, the game’s battle royale mode, is capped at 20hz.

User Zaydene said, ‘I’ve been playing MP exclusively the past week and today decided to launch up a round of blackout. You can definitely tell the difference. Hopefully they bump it up soon.’

Server speed in a mode like Blackout, with 88 players and that sprawling map, is crucial. While it’s good that the other modes in the multiplayer suite are being improved, Blackout needs is the main draw.

Check out our review of Black Ops 4. I really liked it; despite it not having a campaign, its generous modes along with its polished take on battle royale really sold it.
