AFK farmers have gained a ton of notoriety in The First Descendant in recent weeks, and for good reason. Like any group project, no one wants to help a freeloading member get a passing grade without contributing. And, in TFD’s case, players don’t want freeloaders getting experience and rewards without helping in missions. So, much like students telling their professors about that one moocher, some community members are now reporting AFK farmers, hoping it gets them punished.
Unfortunately, according to a few social media posts, innocent players are getting caught in the crosshairs simply because they stood still for a few seconds. For instance, Reddit user goomptatroompta was reported by a teammate because they were fixing their loadout at the beginning of a mission. Now, typically, the target of a player report won’t be notified of it. The only way to know if someone reported you is if they tell you directly, which is exactly what their teammate did.
Naturally, an argument ensued between both players. Even though goomptatroompta attempted to explain their side, the damage had already been done. Of course, the report likely won’t get them punished since they weren’t actually AFK farming. However, this experience, and many others like it, shows players’ tendencies to knee-jerk react to the slightest inconvenience and why a ‘vote to kick’ feature would be disastrous for the game.
That said, Nexon still needs to find an amicable way to resolve the recent influx of AFK farmers in The First Descendant. Otherwise, this could become a recurring issue that eventually sees jaded players migrate to other looter shooters. While you wait for a fix, though, take a look at our guides on how to farm Mixed Energy Residue and how to get the Matrix Recomputation Module in The First Descendant. This way, you’ll have an easier time collecting the necessary materials in-game.
