After funding from state officials, the Ontario-based Silicon Knights, developer of 2008’s Too Human, is to hire 80 new members of staff. The money will help bump the studio from 100 employees to 180.

It’s not been confirmed exactly how much the Ontario state has given the studio, but reports put the figure at somewhere between three and four million Canadian dollars.

It’s also been reported, via Develop, that Silicon Knights will become a self-publisher, although whether this will be for triple-A games has not been revealed.

Denis Dyack, Silicon Knights’ president has said the grant is a “profound and long-lasting” support package.

Silicon Knights is currently developing X-Men Destiny, due for release this autumn from Activision. The studio has also confirmed that it will stick by the Too Human trilogy, which wasn’t received all too well by critics when it was released a few years back
