Crystal Dynamics is “working closely” with production studio GK Films on a third Tomb Raider movie, it’s been revealed.

Speaking to Variety, Crystal Dynamics’ head Darrell Gallagher revealed that the film, which has yet to be titled, will take inspiration from the studio’s latest game, rather than continue where the old films left off.

“They are working from this new take that we’ve given them,” said Gallagher of GK Films. “It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens.”

It isn’t yet known whether actress Camilla Luddington, who plays Lara Croft in the latest game, will return for the movie.

GK Films has previously produced the Oscar-winning Argo and 3D flick Hugo.

“It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise,” Gallagher continues. “We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider’ films.”

Angelina Jolie was chosen for the role of Lara in the previous two movies. The second film, however, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, was reported to have bombed at the box office, taking just under $22m in its opening weekend.

Tomb Raider launches today on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
