Titanfall is to receive a new 4-player co-op mode as part of its next title update, Respawn has announced.

Frontier Defense, which will roll out with Game Update 8, sees up to 4 players tasked with defending an objective against waves of enemies, including Grunts and Spectres, Nuclear Titans and Arc Titans, and new foes Sniper Spectres, Cloak Drones and Suicide Sprectres.

Similar to Gears of War’s Horde mode, players will also be able to deploy stationary turrets to defend the objective, and use Loadout Crates to switch loadouts on the fly and refill ammo.

The new mode will be playable on every map in the game, including those found in the three expansion packs.

Alongside the new mode the update will introduce Ranked Play, which lets players “work [their] way through an increasingly challenging set of Tiers by out-performing other pilots”. The feature will initially roll out in beta form, but will work in all standard competitive matches.

Additional tweaks include new Titan voices, 17 new Xbox One Achievements, a full screen minimap and a new Map Stars feature, which lets players earn up to 3 stars in each game mode of each map based on their final score. A total of 504 stars are available to earn in total.

For the full patch notes, head through to the Titanfall website. A release date for the update has yet to be confirmed but, given Ranked Play’s October roll-out, expect it to launch this month.
