UPDATE: Respawn has responded to today’s rumours of a Titanfall alpha test, confirming that it is carrying out “a limited technical test”, but that it is limited to North America and is “not open to the public”.

“It is not a beta, and we don’t have any beta news at the moment,” the developer added.

ORIGINAL REPORT: EA has invited a select number of players to an “exclusive trial” of Titanfall, according to online reports.

Multiple NeoGAF users claim to have received the email last night, informing them that they had “been selected to take part in an exclusive trial for an upcoming EA title on Microsoft’s Xbox One”.

The email then states that access to the test is “extremely limited” and asks players to click through a link to register their interest. The link redirects to a page on the Titanfall website.

Though the email was initially believed to be a scam, some now believe that the email could be legitimate. The page on Titanfall.com appears to be real, while an alleged conversation with an EA customer service rep states that the emails are “legit”.

Neither EA or Respawn have yet announced plans for a Titanfall Alpha test.

VideoGamer.com has contacted EA for comment.
