Tiny Wings 2 has arrived on the New Zealand App Store, revealing that the game is in fact a free update to the first title.

Titled Tiny Wings 2.0, the free update adds a new Flight School mode which sees players racing against three AI controlled birds across 15 brand new levels.

A separate iPad release will also be released, including the original game and 2.0 content. The bigger device also supports two-players, each using one half of the screen.

Both versions now also offer support for Retina Displays.

Commenting on the decision to release Tiny Wings 2.0 as a free update, creator Andreas Illiger told toucharcade: “I worked on the 2.0 version for the last 12 months and everyone told me I should make a separate app out of it and sell it again (because it is almost a new game and I would earn a lot more money). It was a heavy decision for me to give away this new version for free but it feels right.”

He added: “So I decided to give it away for free as a big ‘thank you’ to all my fans for changing my life. That’s really important for me and the reason why I make this little stupid marketing trick of confusing my fans before the release.”

Look out for the update and iPad version to arrive on the App Store in your region anytime now.
