18/10/2022:

While there have been several rumours over the last few weeks of Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Hollywood Homicide) taking over the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross played memorably by William Hurt (Dark City, Dune, A History of Violence). The rumours are now beginning to gain more weight, despite there being no official announcement made yet by Marvel Studios regarding any recasting of the role of General Ross.

As The Hollywood Reporter have published an article reporting the (potential) recasting after it was discussed by Hollywood movie insiders, Jeff Sneider, and John Rocha, on their “The Hot Mic” podcast. This recasting, if confirmed, would come after the sad passing of Hurt earlier this year due to natural causes.

But, why Harrison Ford some may ask, and there are several potential reasons for this. The first would be Ford’s status in Hollywood as an A-Lister with a career spanning almost five decades in Hollywood. Another would be Ford’s history of playing military roles on screen, from ‘Force 10 from Navarone’ to ‘Apocalypse Now’ to ‘Air Force One’ to ‘K-19: The Widowmaker’.

Also, another key reason that lends weight to this rumour is that Ford already has an established relationship with Marvel Studios owner’s, The Walt Disney Company, having reprised his role as Han Solo for both 2015’s ‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens’ and 2019’s ‘Star Wars Episode IV: The Rise of Skywalker’, in addition to reprising his role as Henry “Indiana” Jones Jr in next year’s still untitled fifth ‘Indiana Jones’ movie.

So, it’s not out of the realms of possibility to imagine Ford stepping into General Ross’s military uniform for future MCU projects such as ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘Captain America: New World Order’.

Where can I watch ‘Thunderbolts’?

It hasn’t been confirmed yet whether ‘Thunderbolts’ will be a cinema exclusive release or a Disney+ exclusive release.

What is the story of ‘Thunderbolts’?

Unfortunately, no official story synopsis has been given yet for the movie. But, given that the Thunderbolts seen in the pages of Marvel’s Comics have alternately been villains and heroes, and have also been a US Government sanctioned team. And, remembering that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has been seen recruiting various MCU characters throughout Phase 4 such as Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, and Wyatt Russell’s John Walker/US Agent, to join her in an undisclosed clandestine US Government team.

It looks highly likely that this team will be revealed to be the MCU’s version of the Thunderbolts. But, whether they will be villains, heroes, or something in-between, still remains to be seen…
