‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next major movie release, and judging by its first trailer, one whose story is going to be pivotal for the future of the MCU with the events that take place set to have ongoing ramifications for the future of the MCU and its heroes.
With the official, and long awaited introduction to the MCU of the proud nation of Atlantis, and it’s half Atlantean/half Mutant ruler, Namor. A character not only with a long and varied history in the Marvel Comics, but one who has always been inextricably linked to the ‘Fantastic Four‘ due to the attraction and deep connection he shares with the Four’s Sue Storm/Invisible Woman.
In addition, this movie is also going to be a pivotal for the MCU, in that it will be the first project to directly deal with the real life passing of the incredibly talented and beloved Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman, who passed in 2020 from colorectal cancer, after years spent continuing to work while quietly and dignifiedly dealing with the life changing condition.
It’s been confirmed that the movie will honour and reflect his passing by showing how each of King T’Challa’s loved ones and allies deal with the passing of their King, Brother, Friend, and Champion, along with the ramifications that the loss of Wakanda’s king has to the nation’s security and sovereignty.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Latest News

With the worldwide release of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ mere days away now. Marvel Studios have released another behind the scenes featurette for the movie that discusses the movie’s writer/producer/director, Ryan Coogler:
04/11/2022:
With just one week left until the official global release of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’. Marvel Studios continues to build excitement for the movie with a brand new trailer, aptly titled “One Week”, that gives a greater glimpse at the dangers and tensions facing Wakanda following T’Challa’s passing.
In addition to showing even more of the movie’s action, promising a sequel that will not only live up to ‘Black Panther’ but appears as if it will stand as one of the most action packed movies of the MCU so far:
19/10/2022:
In anticipation of the release of the upcoming release of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, The Hollywood Reporter have published an in-depth interview with Lupita Nyongo’o. Wherein the Oscar winning actress discusses a variety of subjects ranging from her experiences dealing with fame and success following her breakthrough performance in ’12 Years A Slave’. To the shock and pain that she felt at the news of losing her co-star, Chadwick Boseman. To the training that she undertook in anticipation of playing Nakia once more in ‘Wakanda Forever’.
Below is a quote from the interview, in which Nyong’o touchingly describes the impact that Chadwick Boseman had, and indeed, continues to have on her life and performances:
“He affected how I move in the world,” Nyong’o says. “But that’s the thing about Chadwick. Chadwick wasn’t trying to have everyone be like him. What he inspired was you to be your best self. So how I’m going to lead a set is nowhere near — I’m not that person. I’m not Chadwick at all. I’ll never be.“
In addition to their interview with Lupita Nyong’o, the article also includes quotes from ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Writer/Director, Ryan Coogler, including the below quote in which he discusses the direction of the sequel before the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman in August 2020.
“The script we wrote before Chadwick passed was very much rooted in T’Challa’s perspective,” Coogler says. “It was a massive movie but also simultaneously a character study that delved deeply into his psyche and situation.“
13/10/2022:
The Direct have reported that a new press release from The Walt Disney Company and Marvel Studios confirms that ‘Wakanda Forever’ will be set 1 year after the passing of King T’Challa/The Black Panther (played by the late Chadwick Boseman).
Speaking about how this loss affects T’Challa’s loved ones at the beginning of the movie, writer/director, Ryan Coogler, had this to say:
“Ramonda realizes that it’s been a year since T’Challa’s passing and Shuri’s still not healing—she’s not taking steps to move forward in a healthy way. They take a retreat—stepping away from the city, from the technology—to sit with no distractions and perform what is essentially a grief ritual. That’s when Namor shows up.”
Discussing Namor and the re-imagined Atlantis, now called Talokan, Coogler said:
“In our story, he represents Talokan, a hidden underwater civilization that is our reimagined version of the comic book realm of Atlantis. His appearance there shows that Wakanda is not as safe as they thought, and he presents Ramanda and Shuri with a proposition.“
11/10/2022:

11/10/2022:
Total Film Magazine have exclusively revealed the below brand new image of Namor (played by Tenoch Huerta):
When asked by Total Film if audiences will respond to Namor as positively as they responded to Michael B. Jordan’s portrayal in the first ‘Black Panther’ movie of classic Black Panther villain, Erik Killmonger, Huerta responded:
“I hope so!” laughs Huerta, when TF asks if audiences might gravitate to Namor in the same way they did to Killmonger. “I never try to compare myself with other actors with my characters. But, of course, he made a great antagonist, and people loved him. I loved that character when I saw the first Black Panther movie. I hope that people engage in the same way with Namor.“
07/10/2022:
In a brand new interview with Vogue magazine, incoming MCU actress, Michaela Coel, discussed her role as Aneka in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, a captain in and combat instructor for the Wakandan Royal Guards, the Dora Milaje.
Coel confirmed that one of the story elements that drew her to the role was that in addition to showing Aneka in her roles as Captain and combat instructor, the movie would also not shy away from the character’s sexuality, showing her love for her fellow warrior, Ayo (played once more by Florence Kasumba), and how this causes disruption in the ranks of the Dora Milaje.
“That sold me on the role, the fact that my character’s queer,”
“I thought: I like that, I want to show that to Ghana.”“
Coel, who is of Ghanian descent, went on to explain further, in regards to the historical and contemporary treatment of the Ghanian LGBTQ+ community. Who, if a recent bill put before the Ghanian parliament is passed, could see anyone identifying as a member or ally of the LGBTQ+ community facing anywhere up to five years in prison on a second-degree felony.
“People say, ‘Oh, it’s fine, it’s just politics.’ But I don’t think it is just politics when it affects how people get to live their daily lives,”
“That’s why it felt important for me to step in and do that role because I know just by my being Ghanaian, Ghanaians will come.”
03/10/2022:
Marvel Studios have released the first official trailer for the movie, giving an even greater look at the worlds of Wakanda and Atlantis, and the war that erupts between them, led by Namor:
In addition, Marvel Studios have also released a brand new poster for the movie showing the opposition and similarities between the cultures of Wakanda and Atlantis:
27/09/2022:
As part of their upcoming November 22 magazine, Empire, have released some exclusive images and quotes from their ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ feature, beginning with this quote from Writer/Director, Ryan Coogler, as he discusses Namor:
“The contrast between T’Challa and Namor – their characters, and their nations – just leaps off the page,” “He’s a dream antagonist.“
The feature, as reported by, Empire Online. also sees Namor actor, Tenoch Huerta, confirm that just like his comic counterpart, the MCU’s Namor will be a mutant.
This is important as, up until now due to rights issues pre Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, the MCU could not even mention the term “Mutant”, instead having to rely on calling Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver “gifted” in order to try and sidestep their comic origins as the mutant children of X-Men sometimes villain, sometimes ally, Magneto.
With Kevin Feige preparing the MCU for the arrival of all the characters previously owned by Fox such as The Fantastic Four, and The X-Men (with the now infamous tease of both during ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness‘). It will be very interesting to see what groundwork, if any, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ will lay in preparation for the arrivals of both these teams.
As not only is Namor an important mutant within the Marvel Comics Universe. He is also a key character in the world of the Fantastic Four, serving as both ally and enemy depending on the situation, but always determined in his romantic pursuit of Invisible Woman, Sue Storm, and loyal in his love for her too. Two things that Sue has called upon on more than one occasion in the comics when Namor’s help was needed but he refused to give it. As Sue, and many of the other Marvel heroes know, that she is often the only person that the notoriously proud and antagonistic Namor will listen to and subsequently agree to help.
Speaking of Shuri’s journey in ‘Wakanda Forever’ and her own journey playing Shuri in the movie, as she dealt with the loss of her beloved castmate, Chadwick Boseman, while subsequently playing Shuri’s emotions at the loss of her brother, T’Challa, Letitia Wright had this to say:
“Shuri’s journey has allowed me to grieve, to cry, to laugh, and to gain strength that I never thought I could ever have,”
“Trials and tribulations make you who you are. You either fold or you get up and go again. I feel like Shuri kept looking at me every day, asking me if I was gonna fold or go again. And I just kept going until healing started to happen for me.“
‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Release Date
The movie is set for a worldwide release between 9th November and 11th November 2022.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Story
Per this official synopsis for the movie:
“Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.”
Further to this synopsis, and as I mentioned in my opening paragraphs for this article. The nation of Atlantis, along with it’s ruler, Namor, are set to make their MCU debut in ‘Wakanda Forever’, seemingly, as one of the “intevening world powers” mentioned in the synopsis above. As, in a blink and you’ll miss it moment from the movie’s teaser trailer, we see M’Baku leaping into the air, in what looks to be an attack on Namor as he has his back turned while addressing several kneeling Atlanteans.
In addition, although we don’t yet know the exact reasons for her involvement in the events of the movie. We do know that Riri Williams/Ironheart is due to make her MCU debut in the movie, before going on to star in her own Disney+ series next year which is being produced by ‘Black Panther’, and ‘War for Wakanda’ director/writer/producer, Ryan Coogler.
