THQ and Games Workshop have announced a multi-year extension to the pair’s Warhammer 40,000 video game licensing agreement.

To date THQ have shipped several titles using the 40k license, including the 6.5 million selling Dawn of War RTS series.

“The complex, futuristic war-torn universe created by Games Workshop equipped THQ’s award-winning development teams with the material to create one of the most loved PC franchises – Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War,” said Brian Farrell, THQ president and CEO. “Our envisioning of the Warhammer 40,000 universe will continue to grow with top quality games across all platforms, including the upcoming launches of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online.”

THQ is currently working on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, an action title set for release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and MMO Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium.

THQ will be hoping that Space Marine can break the 40,000 series into the mainstream, able to compete with the likes of Gears of War, while MMO Dark Millennium aims to tap into the hardcore user base that currently laps up the Dawn of War series.
