THQ has revealed that the Red Faction series is no more. Speaking at an investor call last night, CEO Brian Farrell confirmed that the publisher isn’t planning to carry forward the franchise due to poor sales.
“We do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way,” said Farrell.
The team at Volition has now been moved onto THQ and Guillermo del Toro’s inSane project.
Red Faction Armageddon, a third-person shooter, didn’t go down well with critics, earning a 6/10 in our review. Armageddon was drastically different to 2009’s Red Faction Guerrilla, which scored a 9/10 in our review. Could the poor quality of Armageddon have been the reason it didn’t sell well?
Prior to Guerrilla, Red Faction was a first-person shooter series, best known for its GeoMod technology. This exciting tech was carried forward and used excellently in Guerrilla.
