If you’re an X-Com veteran, you’ve probably been wondering what the Chrysalids will look like in Firaxis’ new XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Well, wait no more. The terrifying impregnation beasties are back, with a new spidery look:

I suspect some of you may be a bit doubtful about this four-legged appearance. If that’s the case, I can at least reassure you that they still seem to be absolutely lethal.

If a Chrysalid gets in close, it slashes the victim up with its talons and then lays some kind of egg inside its chest. The poor sod then staggers about for a bit, vomits, and bursts apart as a new Chrysalid emerges.

The animation for this death sequence is suitably gruesome: the affected trooper topples over backwards, then the new Chrysalid’s limbs rip through their arms and legs. Those things incubate at lightspeed.

You’ll get the chance to see the new Chrysalids in action in Firaxis’ E3 demo, which also features a cameo from Sid Meier.
