The Japanese demo for Sonic Forces has gone live on PS4 and Nintendo Switch, and comes with three playable levels, as well as an interesting caveat. Players can play as much of the demo’s levels as they like, but they are limited to 60 seconds on each one.

While the demo is restricted to the Japanese region it’s easy enough to create an account in order to download and play it. It’s likely the account creation will take longer than the demo, though.

Once players begin the demo they’ll see the restrictions in full force(s). The Sonic Forces demo comes with three stages to have a crack at, and according to GameXplain, each stage has a one minute time limit and is followed by a cinematic sequence with the opportunity to start the stage from the beginning. Thanks Sega.

Seriously, this is barely enough time to get a proper idea of what the game’s like, which pretty much negates the point of the demo. After playing, some might argue that 60 seconds is probably more than enough, but hopefully this one will surprise. As this game will be released following on from the excellent Sonic Mania, I can’t help but have at least a smidgen of optimism that Sonic Forces could be better than the other 3D Sonic games.

Sonic Forces is out November 7 on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch.
