Shenmue 1 & 2 may be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One according to a number of listings at Eastern European retailers. This isn’t the first time that such a bundle has been rumoured, but this latest rounds of leaks lends further credence to the ongoing rumblings.

Over the weekend, listings for the two games as double pack for PS4 and Xbox One appeared on the websites of the Czech retailer Alza, before being delisted, and Slovak retailers Heureka, GetGame and MadGamer. Currently there are few details for the games with only GetGames noting a speculative (and rather hopeful) 2017 release window, and a price point of €49.99. Madgamer had listed the game for €59.99 (before being delisted), but all prices are most likely placeholders for a title that’s yet to be confirmed, and it’s unclear where the information about a possible release even came from.

Naturally Sega hasn’t commented on the rumour, but from a business point of view it’d make sense to release an HD version of both games, prior to Shenmue III’s release in 2018. If it manages to make that date of course. The original Shenmue originally started life as a Sega Saturn game, featuring Virtua Fighter’s Akira in the main role, before development moved over to the Sega Dreamcast prior to its 1999 release in Japan. Shenmue III was funded on Kickstarter back in 2015 and is looking, uh, a bit blank so far.

Rumours of a remaster have persisted for some time now, and it’d be great for fans and newcomers to the series to get a taste of what made the original games so beloved to fans.

Shenmue III is due to release in 2018 for the PS4 and PC. It was recently announced that Deep Silver would be publishing the game internationally.
