A major update for the Witcher 2 will be available September 29, CD Projekt RED has announced.

Called The Witcher 2 version 2.0, the patch will introduce a new tutorial system, a higher difficulty setting, and new weapons and items only available on this difficulty, and a new arcade-style Arena Mode that lets you combat 30 waves of enemies including the new Werewolf monster type.

CD Projekt RED’s studio director Adam Badowski stated this will be a bigger update than The Witcher 1’s Enhanced Edition.

“We quite modestly called this new update 2.0, but while testing it, we have realised that this update is, actually bigger than Enhanced Edition known from our first game! So this is a major update not only for us, but also for all those who want to start their adventure with the game and for those who would like to play it again.”

He added that it’s possible to be successful with a product without the traditional inclusion of DRM or downloadable content: “Around 1 million units sold worldwide and solid financial results are the best proof that that we have the right approach. You don’t need draconian DRM to have good sales and you don’t need costly DLC to have good financial results. You just need to treat you customers fair, and you get not only financial results, but fans admiration which for us is absolutely priceless!”

Recently, CD Projekt’s Jan Bartkowiscz stated the Witcher 2 left the story open ended, and therefore a third game would seem logical, while the firm would like to see the game come to PS3 in the future.
