Supermassive Games has suggested that it may have plans to continue developing interactive dramas in future, teasing that there are “many other genres” besides horror that could fit the structure of Until Dawn.

Discussing the developer’s future plans in the latest issue of Game Informer, creative director Will Byles explained that Supermassive had “been going all out to make Until Dawn the best of its kind across the board and we are definitely going to develop that theme with our next projects.

“It was very encouraging to get such a good response from the gamers and the critics and it seems that the space is there for more. I love horror, but there are many other genres on which we think this kind of treatment would work beautifully.”

Until Dawn launched on PS4 in August and was praised for its choice-based ‘Butterfly Effect’ system that let players determine the fate of eight friends staying at a remote mountain lodge.

The positive response to the game even caught Sony “by surprise”, worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida admitted, but agreed that the “interactive drama genre can help expand the audience for console games”.

“We’re a big fan of this genre,” he said.

Until Dawn debuted in the UK video games charts at No.2, although sales figures have yet to be announced.
