If Mortal Kombat's fights are known for one thing, its over the top violence and gore. If the Mortal Kombat movie fights are known for one thing, it's a very questionable semi-animatronic Goro getting punched in the balls. It looks like that's all set to change with the new movie, however.

A tweet from the film's screenwriter, Greg Russo (spotted by GamesRadar) has revealed that the new movie is indeed going for an R rating, and will feature full-blown fatalities for the first time. Russo is coy on revealing which ones, but it sounds as though the movie might more closely match the gory action the series is famous for.

The Mortal Kombat movie was announced as finally going into pre-production back in May. Recently announced was the casting of The Raid and Fast and Furious 6 actor Joe Taslim as Sub Zero as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. The film still doesn't have a release date just yet, but Josh has a list of ideas we'd like to see that you can read here.
