Nintendo has announced the development of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Wii.
Speaking during the Nintendo E3 media briefing, legendary video game creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed the game will make use of the Wii MotionPlus accessory.
A live demo showed how the Wiimote and MotionPlus will combine to match player movement directly into sword swipes in the game – though the accuracy of the motion didn’t seem too hot in the demo.
After a quick demo of moves – including Z-Targeting – Link entered a locked room to take on an enemy and chop down a tree. The idea is to kill an enemy by slicing swinging the sword in the direction of its mouth.
An attempt to demo a bow and arrow failed – Nintendo claimed that there was some kind of wireless interference.
The demo ended with the promise that gameplay on the show floor will be much smoother. The trailer shown appeared far more impressive.
One more thing – perhaps unsurprisingly given the state of the game shown – it won’t be out until 2011.
